How to Find Science Experiments for Kids

Kids of all ages are always curious about how the world works, why things are the way they are, or how stuff works. By engaging their attention with a fun science experiment, you can help them understand the world around them, and hopefully have fun at the same time. Unless you’re a teacher or scientist though, it might be tricky to know what experiments are best, what materials you need, or what to look for in an experiment. Luckily, if you know where to look, you just might have access to lots of great kids science experiment ideas in places you visit everyday.

Public libraries or school libraries often carry books geared toward children full of fun and age appropriate projects. Be sure to look for one with good instructions and pictures to help you along. Your child’s teacher or science teacher might also be a great resource for finding a science experiment. Asking a teacher is also a good idea, as they might be able to help you find a kids science experiment idea that is relevant to what your child’s class is studying in science at that time. Finally, the internet has many websites geared toward science experiments for kids. Searching for kids science experiments will yield tons of helpful results, many of which are free like the science project guides you can find at  http://www.24hourscienceprojects.com/guide.pdf  Remember to have fun by doing a project your child is interested in, and always be safe!

Twenty Five Science Projects & We STOPPED Counting

One year I decided I would do a science project called “Do Science Projects Cause Maternal Insanity?” That was the year we sent one of our sons to the neighbor’s house to do his science experiment. It was one of the years that each of our four boys had to do science projects.

Thirty five years ago, when I was in elementary school, it was easy to do a science project. You made a trip-tik science board out of a cardboard box, hand wrote your topic and procedure, then made a model of a volcano or made an egg squeeze into a bottle. Your teacher had never heard of the scientific method, and your mother never even knew your science project was due.

Those were the good old days. Now, children are expected to choose a science project topic, submit a proposal, form a hypothesis, perform an experiment with three trials, graph and chart the results, develop and present an abstract, give an oral report, and pretend they did all this without help from parents.

It really is enough to drive a mother insane.

But smile, mom! You’ve discovered a secret weapon to help you conquer the dreaded science project. If you’re at this blog, you’ll find it easy to click over to 24 Hour Science Projects and sign up for a free copy of “The Non-Scientist Parent’s Guide to Science Fair Projects”, a guide that will answer almost every question you have about doing a science project with your child.

We’ll help you as you choose the perfect science project, wade through the odd vocabulary, deal with the scientific method, and design an award winning science board.

And the great thing is that you’ll find out that your science project really can be done by your child, with you as a teacher and a guide.

Fourth Grade Science Projects – Getting Started

Fourth Grade Science Project Due? Your child may have very specific ideas about what he or she would like to submit to the science fair. Before you let excitement rule, however, you need to keep a few things in mind.

Once you find out what kind of science project your fourth grader needs, it’s time to find out what project he or she wants to do. As you search, keep the following questions in mind:

1. Can I find the materials needed for the science experiment? Once my son needed powdered laundry starch for a project. Since nobody irons much anymore, it’s not easy to find!

2. Are the supplies expensive? One science project we considered called for SIX reusable hand warmers. They are almost $6 each, plus shipping. We found something else to do.

3. Can the science project supplies be located in time? If you have to order something, will it arrive in time for you to do the project thoroughly?

4. Is this project within my child’s ability level? Is it safe? Science projects are for your CHILD to do – with your assistance. Not the other way around.

5. Will this project really work? My mom tried for years to make a battery out of a lemon, and never succeeded.

A 4th grade science project is a huge undertaking. Take it from us – we have four sons, each of whom was required to enter the science fair in fourth grade. We’ve had failures and successes, tears and smiles. And always, after the 4th grade project, we had the 5th grade project right around the corner!

Now, get a free guide to fourth grade science projects – including how to find experiments with step by step instructions – at http://www.24hourscienceprojects.com. Easy and fast, they’ll help you submit an outstanding – and maybe winning – fourth grade science project.

How do you convert ounces to mg?

“How do you convert ounces to milligrams?”

I get conversion questions like this all the time. There are charts, calculators and formulas all over the internet, but the easier way is…

1. Go to Google.com.
2. Type in “convert X ounces to mg”.
3. Read the answer. It will convert it for you.

(Of course, the real answer I should give you is to multiply the ounces time 28.35. But who wants to do all that work?!)
